20221027 Monkeypox progress has stopped. Dallas County health reporting poor.
African Americans and Latinos disproportionately impacted.
This is the status as of 10/27/2022 -
The cases are 98.6% men. This is a disease impacting men who have sex with men (MSM). Whatever it may have been in the past, it is impacting MSM.
PROGRESS HAS STOPPED ROUGHLY OR REALLY SLOWED DOWN ON 9/20/2022
Remember the blue area is incomplete data so 7-day running average showing a decline is false. Dallas County Health was told this was the wrong thing to do graphically and mathematically but they persist. (Link to review of the problems with the monkeypox charts at the end of this report.)
Using cumulative plotting you can see that the rate has stabilized to about 3 cases a day. Progress has stopped.
The breakdown charts aren’t assigned dates. They aren’t necessarily updated when graph of cases by day is updated.
Hispanics and Africans Americans (Blacks) are disproportionately being impacted.
STILL NO STATISTICS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN VACCINATED.
We have no idea how many people in Dallas County have been vaccinated. This is really key. When the estimated MSM population is 80% vaccinated, the period of risk is over for those who are vaccinated and greatly reduced for those who aren’t vaccinated.
The progress in getting people vaccinated would be important in knowing whether the federal government and CDC are allocating enough vaccines and whether they should act to increase supply,
OTHER INFORMATION MISSING.
The information as to whether they have a shortage of supply or not driving the restriction as to who can get it is no longer on the webpage.
If there is no restriction than it should be expanded to basically anyone who thinks they need it. Though I think the criteria added, “People who anticipate experiencing the above risks” in the following lists does expand its availability greatly.
SUMMARY
Progressed in fighting monkeypox has stopped for over a month now.
Reporting is still sloppy and flawed and lacking critical information.
African Americans and Hispanics are still disproportionately impacted.
Availability of access to the vaccine has improved.
We shouldn’t count the shutdown of Gay life as being a victory in the fight against monkeypox.
