I have other research to be done, but I am having trouble keeping up with all the homophobic Christian churches and individuals for which the Dallas Morning News (DMN) is covering up homophobia and promoting.
“Upperroom” is a name used by more than one Christian group. So, when looking up what Upperroom thinks you need to make sure you are looking at the Upperroom church in Dallas which the DMN is mentioning in their article.

UPPERROOM Dallas Co-Pastor Kevin Tipps shared his testimony of overcoming same-sex attraction at a rally of praise, prayer, worship, and declaration at the church he helps lead.
Tipps said he knows of other church and ministry leaders who God has redeemed and reconciled from LGBTQ lifestyles.
Tipps said he desired to touch and know God when he was growing up, as early as age six. His alcoholic family lacked the necessary skills to lead the sensitive, empathetic, creative, and expressive boy he was.
Tipps' disorderly home life was complicated further when he was sexually molested and exposed to pornography. The combined traumas put Tipps on what he calls "a hot-mess express" for 6 years, all while leading worship and leading a mixed life before the Lord.

And the presence of God in worship began changing lives. Though they started in an area some call the “gayborhood,” God made it clear to Miller that they were not there to minister to people per se, but to Jesus alone. The outflow of ministry to people came from the place of constant communion with God.
“We have had homosexuals come here who have not set foot in a church in decades,” Miller says. “I can think of one man who had been abused by a pastor, and it was part of his journey in becoming a homosexual. … he had a sovereign encounter with Jesus in his bedroom. When someone told him about UPPERROOM, he started coming to our services. Sitting in the corner, He described his experience as saying that when we started singing, he felt like someone was hugging him.”
That man is now very outspoken about the destructiveness of the gay lifestyle and champions the Spirit’s life-changing power. Through the years, the church has witnessed many people come out of homosexuality, addictions and destructive lifestyles.

Summary
The Dallas Morning News continues to do articles about churches that are homophobic and not mention it. They are giving a free pass to homophobia. They wouldn’t do this for an Aryan church, or Christian Identity church which talks about mud people, if a church was known to be anti-Semitic they would not be friendly to that church and make sure the public knew it. But a free pass is given to homophobic churches.

Christianity isn’t the only religion that doesn’t support the LGBT lifestyle. It also doesn’t support drunkenness, thievery, deceit, etc.
Just because the churches won’t support LGBT lifestyle doesn’t mean they hate queer people.
I think your work on Watermark was needful and pointed out the hypocrisy of church. But this one seems off the mark. They’re abiding by their religion, loving others, sharing testimonies.
