One True Deen attack on the Dallas Gay community. Updated.
Let's avoid inflammatory thinking about all Muslims
Lets avoid unreasonable generalizations and rabid anti-Islamic sentiment.
I was an out Gay engineer at National Semiconductor for many years and worked with many Pakistani engineers. They were nice people. So though we read horrific things happening to Gays in some Middle Eastern nations and anti-Gay campaigns in Indonesia we shouldn’t judge all the same, just as we wouldn’t judge all Christians and the basis of what about half of them believe.
Muslims are a beseiged minority and we don’t want to add to the pile on.
Change.org petition to shutdown Gay events.
This petition appeared on Change.org to shutdown Circuit Parties exploiting the issue of monkeypox. This clearly hostile to Gays petition got 61 signatures. The person who started it is Anila Jahangiri and there is the logo for the One True Deen organization.

She claimed that these events are illegal under the Public Indecency laws despite the fact that these are private events. So she called the police.

LinkedIn Account doesn’t mention petition
This is her LinkedIn account.

In terms of experience she mentions that she is a Sunday School Teacher for the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).
I contacted the local Dallas branch of the ICNA to see if this is true. I will update this when I get a response. I also want to see how broadly her viewpoint might be supported or tolerated. Update: I sent an email out on 11/20/2022 and as of 12/11/2022 I haven’t gotten a reply.
The page says she is in Garland, Texas and went to Hartford Seminary.
Summary
It is hard to say whether this person is to be taken seriously as a threat. However, had monkeypox spread beyond the population of MSM, (Men who have Sex with Men), her efforts might have been a point to coalesce and mobilize an anti-Gay movement.
Anti-Gay groups like to look inclusive and she might be utilized by anti-Gay Christians in some front group.
Basically it is imporant to have an online source of background information on this person. If there is a Muslim group focused on attacking Gays, there is a chance that she is involved and observing her will lead us to the main homophobic group.
Or maybe her next anti-Gay petition will get thousands of signatures.
