The Dallas Morning News article states regarding the bill against drag story hours in libraries that:
But his staff confirmed, without further comment, later Wednesday that he would be changing his vote to opposed.
Why did West vote for this bill in the first place is the question that needs to be asked.
This question needs to be asked when some local groups triumphally claims to have influenced him to change his vote.
Also, before any groups brags about West changing one vote, he still voted for the other anti-drag bill.
The Dallas Voice ommitted Royce West from their coverage of the voting entirely.

The following article extensively documents Zarin Gracey’s church and its pastor’s local and national campaigning against Gays. Despite this the Stonewall Democrats endorsed him for the upcoming May 2023 campaign.
Besides notorious homophobe Vonceil Jones Hill, there is Royce West as the sponsor of this campaign launch.

Impact of Stonewall Dems’ Endorsement of Zarin Gracey
When someone with as problematic as Zarin Gracey is endorsed by a LGBT Democratic group, it sends a message to politicians that they can be problematic regarding the rights of LGBT without consequences. It sends a message that the LGBT Democratic group isn’t that serious about LGBT rights as opposed to pursuing career politics or just vote harvesting for the Democrats.
This isn’t a one time incident. Though Carol King Arnold and Tennill Atkins nominated the notorious homophobe Vonciel Jones Hill they both got endorsed. How could Royce West think voting against drag be when endorsements like this means he is still likely to be endorsed again by Stonewall. (I checked on the Internet Archive.)
It needs to be asked what the agenda is of the Stonewall Democrats really is.
They don’t support getting a human rights commission for Dallas, they don’t care that we have a sham ordinance against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, they didn’t care about anti-Gay Dallas City Council invocation speakers.
For all we know, the Stonewall Democrats will end up endorsing Royce West in the future! I am sure they will give reasons.
The On Rotation drag show got shut down in the heart of Dallas, because there wasn’t enough support to make them safe.
The LGBT communities can’t be protected by the careerist politics of the Stonewall Democrats.
