Recently the DMN had an article about Pope Francis blessing of same-sex unions. Pope Francis is trying to look sympathetic to the LGBT, but without giving up the Catholic churches homophobia. Pope Francis’ “blessing” isn’t. However, that will be reported on separately. When it is, the link to the report will be added to this report.
The DMN, had a member’s only report, Dec. 19, 2023, on the reaction to Pope Francis’ recent declaration about blessing same sex unions titled, “Catholics, LGBTQ advocates disagree on Pope’s decision on same-sex blessings.”
The comment of a Christopher Malloy, head of the Theology Dept. at the University of Dallas caught my attention.
In response to a request for comment on the recent news, Christopher Malloy, chair of the theology department at University of Dallas, emailed a statement to The Dallas Morning News that included the following lines:
“God blesses sinners every day but not as sinners. God does not aid and abet evil. God’s blessings work for the destruction of sin, not its continuance. Thus, while God works to convert each of us sinners every day, he would never bless a relationship defined by the gravely evil act of sodomy.” [Boldface added.]

I am somewhat familiar with the Univ. of Dallas. When I was researching and being academically published on the neo-Confederate movement, the leading intellectuals of that movement was M.E. Bradford and there was involvement in the neo-Confederate movement by the Univ. of Dallas, but I am not going to get into that here.

In the sample that you can read at the Amazon listing, Malloy says that the reason the Catholic church is not getting people entering the priesthood is due to the Catholic church turning away from what he considers orthodoxy. In the Introduction he states, “Who would want to follow weak and effeminate men, … And what woman would want to leave the opportunity of a wonderful marriage for a life as an angry, plain-clothed nun campaigning for ‘social justice’?”
Mostly he sees Catholic faith crashing. Lots of wailing.
The author of this post can tell you the reason that people aren’t entering the priesthood after the 1960s, is that there aren’t that many guilt-ridden homosexuals trying to deal with their homosexuality by entering the priesthood. When the author came out in the 1970s he would meet a great many Catholic clergy and ex-clergy in Maryland.

Summary
As stated earlier in this post, the new slimy tactic of the homophobic Christians is to delude themselves that they are engaged in their homophobic campaigns for our benefit.
If you examine what Pope Francis is saying, you can see that the Catholic Church is still homophobic, still sees homosexuality as a sin and the “blessing” is only for contrite sinners, and is trying to finess the issue of homosexuality as being sinful, but the Catholic Church not being mean about it.
The Roman Catholic Church is seeing that they are losing the next generation and are trying to survive, but the Catholic homophobes don’t even want the slightest chance of the public thinking that homosexuality is okay, and they don’t want to give up their campaign of hostility in the name of love.
The Roman Catholic Church is being ripped apart by this, and so it is good for the LGBT, since they won’t be able to go after us. The more hostile homophobes in the Catholic Church are basically being deplatformed from the Catholic Church so they won’t be able to harm the LGBT as much.
Further the Univ. of Dallas shouldn’t be considered a safe place for the LGBT and no city in Dallas county should have activities there.
