About Stedfast Baptist Church
This report has the basic information about them.
This is an example of a tweet they are doing during Pride Month.
The title is “God wants our government to implement Leviticus 20:13
https://twitter.com/StedfastKjv/status/1668263716649877508
Leviticus 2012: If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
At the end of this post is a link to a post which is a directory of links to posts about anti-Gay groups in Dallas.
Effective Protesting.
The Cedar Hill Location is less advantageous for protesting.
It would be possible to have a protest where we state they are hateful people and they are vicious. I am not sure what that would do, in fact it might empower them.
They are getting publicity from this. It is very likely that these protests aid them in imagining they are great follows of Christ who are resisting persecution like the Christians under Roman times. The protest might serve their need for drama. Martyrology is a big part of the Christian saints.
Also, this location is much less strategic for protesting than the previous locations. In the previous locations they were located in strip malls where there were a half-dozen other businesses. Constant protests weren’t good business and the landlord would be under pressure to get them to leave. Given that Stedfast likely had a contract, they may have been paid to leave.
The new location in Cedar Hill isn’t in a mall and is on a lot with one building. There is a parking lot between the street and the church. There is appreciable distance between the church and neighbors. So protesting isn’t going to be a problem for the neighbors and the landlord won’t fact any pressure to evict Stedfast. This is presuming that Stedfast has a landlord, they might have bought this building.
The protest does have value.
Does that mean that this protest has no value? No the protest has value.
It will alert the Cedar Hills community. A lot of local churches will be forced to deal with their anti-LGBT views, be embarrassed by them, and think about them. Stedfast will be evidence that the LGBT do face prejudice and hate.
The protest could be much more effective.
However, the protest conducted the way protests have been won’t do much to impact Stedfast, and may actually empower them some.
What we need to do is things that psychologically disable them and reduce the chance that people will join them.
We need to look into their motivations for their whole anti-LGBT campaign. Why are they doing this? What is their psychology? What do they get out this? What are their psychological vulnerabilities? We need to profile them like any police department profiles serial killers. This is not too strong a terminology. Christians around the world and over the centuries have been persecuting and killing Lesbian and Gays. The very word “faggot” comes from Gays being burned alive like a stick of wood.
Are all Christians like this, no, but Stedfast’s version of Christianity where Gays are put to death, has been the dominant version of Christianity over the centuries.
For Christians like the Stedfast Christians we need to take the gloves off and put the brass knuckles on. (I mean this figuratively.)
We need to do things that psychological disable them and bring them into ridicule with the public. Condemnation is good also, but ridicule has its place also and they aren’t the same.
Tactics and things NOT to do.
.
We don’t live in a theocracy.
[1] When these homophobic Christians are at Pride events or are encountered campaigning against LGBT elsewhere, some individuals will want to debate with the homophobic Christians that the Bible isn’t anti-Gay. DO NOT DO THIS!
The homophobic Christian has already heard every Bible based defense of Gays already. The homophobic Christian didn’t just stumble into this vicious homophobic campaign because he goofed in his reading of the Bible. Do we expect the homophobic Christian to say, “Oh, I didn’t think of that, well I guess Gays are okay.”?
It also locates the debate in the Bible which is their terrain. It defines our right to exist, to breath, to be based on the outcome of contorted theological arguments. It makes the Bible the authority as to whether we can exist or not.
Varients of this argument is the “Real Christianity” argument as to what is or is not real Christianity. Again, we are asserting them that it is going to be Christianity which is going to decide whether we can exist or not.
These arguments about the Bible might be important to those who are LGBT and Christian, but not every LGBT person is Christian and recent polls show that a majority of LGBT aren’t Christian. Regardless of the demographics, the interests of one particular segment of the LGBT isn’t automatically the interests of the whole.
Finally, when you debate a homophobic Christian about the Bible you validate him as a rational opponent.
[2] The homophobic individual is a closet case. It does happen sometimes, but the majority of homophobes in the world are not closet cases. Inevitably some idiot will throw this up as some cause of a homophobes behavior to make themselves appear clever. The homophobic Christians know they aren’t homosexual and without proof no one is believing it.
[3] The leader is just doing it for personal gain. The leader might be doing it for personal gain. Besides the fact that it would be difficult to prove, the followers and supporters of a homophobic campaign aren’t getting any personal gain and are actually donating money to be part of it.
[4] Cursing, swearing, angry insults. The homophobic Christians have heard curses, swearing, angry insults numerous times already. It makes them feel more Christ like in enduring suffering. Also, it tells them that their arguments are effective since it upsets LGBT to be angry.
[5] The “Meet hate with love” nonsense. This is nothing more than some Gay Christians indulging in self-glorification in their imitation of Christ. Meeting hate with hate isn’t good either since emotion can obscure critical thinking. Our slogan should be “Meet hate with a defense.”
Effective Tactics
The LGBT around the world is taking a beating from homophobic Christians. Uganda was in the news. What isn’t generally known is that this year the homophobic South Korean government prevented a Seoul Pride event and they scheduled a Christian Youth Musical festival instead.
The push back has been the usual tactics revolving around debating the Bible or condeming them or various sorts of sugary syrups of sentimental statements of tolerance. This is not working well. There has been a lack of critical analysis on how we fight back against homophobic Christianity.
Christianity itself is declining rapidly and at all age levels. Christianity has alienated a large fraction of the public, and possibly the reason is the behavior of many Christians. A large fraction of the public is alienated by the homophobia of the Christian churches. During the Covid epidemic, anti-Gay Christians were very prominent in anti-vaxxer movements and movements against Covid safety, much to the alienation of the public. The Evangelical movement is vulnerable.
We have an opportunity with protesting and opposing Stedfast Baptist and other homophobic Christians to engage in innovative thinking to develop effective methods and tactics to fight and defeat homophobic Christianity. With what we will learn, we can teach the world to fight back against homophobic Christianity.
There are two modes to in which we can attack.
Their motivations.
The credibility of Christianity itself.
Credibility of Christianity itself.
There will be objection to attacking the credibility of Christianity itself. Gay Christians will complain they feel excluded. Others will worry about the Christian community being aroused to attack Gays.
However, not every Gay needs to attack the credibility of Christianity itself. Further Christians will be for attacking Gays or not attacking Gays for their own reasons already and our campaign against homophobic Christianity won’t change that. Gay Christians might consider that a push back against Christianity might be something they can use as leverage. Gay Christians also need to realize that the global protection of the Gay community comes before their personal religious needs.
Two things need to be considered.
[1] Christians need to fear consequences of anti-Gay attacks: Perhaps Christians need to consider that the continuing homophobic Christian attacks on Gays will have negative consequences to themselves. In one case with the homophobic Christians churches, they need to consider if their homophobic attacks will be seen as a manifestation of their irrationality and hence the irrationality of their particular form of Christianity. Christians in general need to consider that these outbreaks of homophobia might be seen as something Christianity in general is prone to, resulting from disordered thinking leading to pathological behavior. Christians who aren’t homophobic need to be much more aggressive in their denunciations of homophobic Christianity and they need to discuss how homophobic Christians are going bring down Christian belief in America, which appears to be happening. We shouldn’t be afraid to use the word “cult.”
Currently the career of being a minister is collapsing. Denominations are in a crisis as their membership declines and ages. These homophobic Christian groups need to realize that attacking Gays might result in their loss of credibility and a collapse of membership.
With a campaign that has teeth, Christians will either improve their behavior, or decline in numbers. Either way the attacks on Gays will diminish.
[2] We shouldn’t accede the defacto assumption be that Christianity is real and the universe is Christian. Christian homophobia itself should bring into question of whether Christianity is anymore real than mythological fables leading to pathological behavior.
Christianity should always be considered the particular things of their imagination and not a concrete reality. It shouldn’t be privileged in credibility over the other religons of the world either. The Christians who attack Gays are absolutely convinced without any doubts, or at least appear to be absolutely free of doubts.
Statements in response to them quoting the Bible might be met with the response, “My holy manga comics books say otherwise,” putting their Bible on the same plane as manga comic books. The arrogance that their religious beliefs should be accepted as a concrete reality will be ridiculed.
I think that comparing their God to Zardoz would be a good thing, and at least there will be some fun in doing so.
Their motivations
Stedfast Church and a lot of other denominations put a lot of energy going after Gays. What do they get out of it and Evangelical Christianity?
I think it is fairly obvious. Their lives are otherwise lacking, mediocre, and meaningless. With a crusade against Gays suddenly they are great crusaders against a great evil. They are the special chosen ones since they recognize the great evil and Christ and whatever, whereas the great, the powerful, have failed to do so. Suddenly they are special, and plus they get to hear “Jesus loves them.”
These Evangelical crusades are better than video games and playing dungeons and dragons or cosplaying at anime conventions because the whole world is your playing field and people are much better than some anime in a video game. Further, where people know that video games are just that, the Evangelicals have much of society colluding in enabling their imagined world.
The following will show that I am not really that good psychological combat, but perhaps the following.
“Without your crusade you would have to face how meaningless your life is.”
“You are intoxicated with self-righteousness with your fentanyl Jesus.”
“If your religion is homophobic, it’s a stupid religion.”
“I guess you need a crusade to feel special.”
They may not seem to be impacted right away but the thoughts will be in them. Also, making statements like this will shape the public’s perception of them.
There are likely stronger and more powerful things to be said, but these are just some thoughts I am able to initially think of. If anyone has better statements please put them in the comments and if I think they are good I will add them to the list above and also put them in a list of useful statements later.
There is another reason people get on these crusades. They use Christianity as duct tape to hold themselves together. I remember one time hitch hiking and was picked by a Christian and he said to me, “I was young like you and lost in sex and drugs.” I wasn’t keen on drugs, but I wondered how come I wasn’t getting any sex.
There are churches that feed on the down and out, the marginal, the failed, the addicted, the homeless. After all, one of the big selling points of Christianity is that “Jesus loves you,” when no one else loves you and this missionary seems to care and you get a support network. “I was lost and now I am saved,” is a powerful message to people who can’t run their own lives.
By going on a crusade they affirm the reality of the duct tape holding them together. If their crusade involves going after LGBT, we should pull on that duct tape. State that their religion is a means for them to hold themselves together and without it you could see them falling apart. Further state, that you are able to run your life without pathology unlike them, so no, you don’t need the Jesus crusade to live responsibly.
If Christians go after us, they need to understand that they might get stung verbally.
In these homophobic Evangelical Churches they have endless entertainment and hoopla and it gives them drama and meaning to their lives. They are saved, they have the good news, they are born again, they are having a revival, and so on. The endomorphines are flowing. In some ways it is good since they are pumped up on Jesus and they aren’t depressed. They have something to keep themselves busy and not get into trouble. However, they inevitably think that their Evangelical faith should rule the world. When people are not living according to their Evangelical faith it can suggest to them that maybe it might not be as real and credible as their pastor says and they find it threatening. They inherently can’t leave Gays alone.
You might tell them, “No all of us are pumped up with fentanyl Jesus.” Or, “When rationality or reason is a problem, you just do a brain flush by saying ‘Jesus.’” We need to say something that their need for hoopla and delusion don’t justify them going after us and make it clear that they are involved with a self-delusionary psychology.
Homophobic campaigns are a results of disordered thinking and mental pathologies. We should not hold back in pointing this out.
We have a right and obligation to do what is necessary to defend ourselves.
We need to do what is necessary to defend outselves. There are those who are alarmed or upset when Gays take action to defend themselves. Some Gays basically have just acquiesced to being Gay, they tolerate being Gay, they think being Gay is somehow an imposition, and they just want tolerance.
When other Gays suggest taking an action, to these Gays it is unreasonable, since they don’t really see themselves as being worthwhile enough for a defense. They also are fearful that straight tolerance might end. They will have endless rationalizations for not doing this or that, rather than admit they are afraid and don’t value being Gay.
In some situations, there are Gays who want the fentanyl Jesus like the other Evangelicals, and just want to be tolerated.
W.A. Criswell was pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas. He gave sermons that AIDS was God’s punishment.
When he died, Gay religious leaders praised him.
Thus some of these suggestions in this post will upset Gays. Ignore them, better yet ridicule them. They are in the way of our defense.
